COMCAST’S RON POOLE CAPTURES 2010 SCTE INTERNATIONAL CABLE GAMES TITLE
OCT. 22, 2010 (New Orleans, LA)—Representing SCTE Region 1 and the SCTE Golden Gate Chapter, Ron Poole of Comcast and Santa Cruz, Calif., outpaced a field of 28 competitors and captured the 20th Annual SCTE International Cable-Tec Games overall title Thursday evening in New Orleans.
The International Games, sponsored by CommScope and the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE), comprised competitors from across the United States and Canada who had qualified to compete after winning their local competitions.
SCTE conducts the popular International Games—where technical professionals demonstrate precise workmanship, refined skills, and proper technique—each year as part of SCTE Cable-Tec Expo®, SCTE’s flagship event. Expo 2010 began Wednesday and concludes this evening at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.
Bob Colwell of Comcast, the SCTE New England Chapter, and Portsmouth, N.H., took second-place overall. He was representing SCTE Region 12. Meanwhile, Keith Jensen of Cablevision, the SCTE New Jersey Chapter, and Hackettstown, N.J., achieved third-place overall. His chapter is located in SCTE Region 11.
The first-place winners of the International Games’ seven contests were:
Meter Reading: Greg Brakefield of Comporium, Rock Hill, S.C., and the SCTE Piedmont Chapter, SCTE Region 10
MTDR: Michael Carson of Time Warner, Corpus Christi, Texas, and the SCTE Texas Gulf Coast Chapter, Region 4
Fiber Splicing: Conrad Bombardier of Charter, Lonsdale, Minn., and the SCTE North Country Chapter, Region 6
Cable Splicing: Bob Colwell
Drop Connection: Keith Jensen
Cable Jeopardy: Bob Fuller of Comcast, Lowell, Mass., and the SCTE New England Chapter, Region 12
OTDR: Jim Egloff of Insight, Cincinnati, and the SCTE Bluegrass Chapter, Region 10
The hosts of the evening’s seven contests were: AFL Telecommunications; CommScope; Corning Cable Systems; Corning Gilbert Inc.; EXFO; Greenlee, A Textron Company; JDSU; Jones/NCTI; PPC; Radiodetection; Thomas & Betts; Times Fiber Amphenol; and Trilithic.
